Mission

To empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to engage in government and use their voices to create meaningful change.

The Youth Civic Engagement Action Team focuses on educating and supporting youth as they learn how to participate in the democratic process through testimony, advocacy, drafting legislation, and direct engagement with elected officials.

By building civic skills early, we help young people become informed leaders and effective advocates in their communities and beyond!

Youth involvement crisis – So much power, such little opportunity

Two quick facts

  • Across Maryland, young people are deeply affected by decisions made at the local and state level, yet too few are taught how to participate in the systems that shape their futures.
  • When youth lack civic education and access, their perspectives are missing from critical policy conversations. Maryland’s legislative process offers real opportunities for public engagement, making it an ideal place to equip young people with the skills to advocate, testify, and lead on the issues they care about.
