Ben specializes in holding government leaders accountable to the needs of everyday people. He believes in a woman’s right to make her own decisions especially as it relates to her body. In 2013, Ben was named Marylander of the Year by the Baltimore Sun because of the role he played in leading the effort to abolish the death penalty, helping assure the effort to pass marriage equality was successful, chairing the effort to pass the DREAM Act, and expand voting rights.
- President Obama joins several other key national figures that represent the breadth of the Democratic Party. Senators Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand and Elizabeth Warren in addition to Vice President Joe Biden have all endorsed Jealous campaign for governor.
- Jealous worked closely to help pass many of the monumental achievements accomplished by the Obama Administration, most notably the Affordable Care Act which Jealous seeks to build on as Governor. Recently, Obama has come out in favor of Medicare-For-All calling it a “good new idea.” Jealous has made his plan for Medicare-for-All a core part of his policy agenda and polls show that the majority of Marylanders support it.
- As President of the NAACP, Jealous spearheaded a successful 1.2 million voter turnout effort which led to him being called the “unsung hero of Obama’s re-election.”
